Web Sites work effectively in attracting new visitors to the club and providing information to non members. We felt that there was a large need for a facility that allowed the club to post information specifically for the members of the club. To post truly useful information this had to be behind some form of security so we created the members section of our sites.

Each member has their own username and password issued directly by the site itself. Once they have logged in they can see a host of specific club information.

The Diary of events page is a full calendar based diary system that allows authorised personnel to add details of competitions and society days. We encourage the clubs to post all information about usage of the club so that the members can get an idea of how busy the facility is.

The system allows events to be colour coded and allows you to insert start times and end times.

Access to other members contact details is an ongoing issue with all the clubs. Some print telephone numbers in the diaries that they send out which then suffers from the same problems as above of being out of date quickly, especially with regard to new members.

Others print their own telephone lists separately but these are always being re printed for the same reasons.

The ‘News’ section was one of the initial requirements we had from a system. This is an organised group of categories specifically created by the club where news items can be posted for all to see.

The Clubs can create there own sections based on their own requirements and then post articles into those sections.

A Competition is an Event with pages attached. An event can have up to 8 pages each with its own unique title. The Event has a brief synopsis that can be used to specify the format, price of entry, previous winners etc.

Typically uses tend to be for the draw which is often pasted in from Excel. Then pages for division results, 2’s sweep and handicap changes can all be created.

The main pages of the site have a pre defined formats so we decided to create another section where you can create any format of page that you wish. This is ideal for posting social event pages.

Minutes from Committee meetings all sorts of articles that do not abide by the formatting of the rest of the site.

We created a pre formatted layout that resembles the wooden boards commonly found and then we have given the clubs the admin tools to generate their own boards with the titles of there specific competitions.

Part of the admin functions are that they can then populate the names of the winners easily and the system automatically sorts them into date order.

By posting information on the site regularly it gives the site a sense of changing and therefore makes the members feel that the club is keen to post new and up to date data. Competition details are the easiest to post. The direct placement from Word or Excel means that start sheets can be easily displayed and therefore reduce the pressure on the club to contact members or deal with large numbers of calls to answer simple questions.

The Members Pages has a fully emailing service. The clubs can create lists of members and save them and then generate an email to send to those lists.

Formatting of the email is fairly basic at the moment however this is ideal for informing the membership of specific information almost instantly.

It is an ideal way to advertise social functions, charity days or pro am events and even pro shop offers and open days. Some of the clubs advertise junior courses.

Basically any activity at the club can be posted to the web and even upload pictures to view or documents that they can then download. The members section is an ideal way to inform people of what is happening at the club.

A key aspect of the Members web site is the ease of administration. It is not dependant on one person to update the whole site. You may delegate responsibility to many people around the club and give them the ability to update just one or two areas of the web site. This makes it administering the web site very easy and can put control into the hands of those who need it most.
